Goal Completed: Run some house appliances from our car and inverter as a test.
Put together a back up battery system for basic home appliances
-completed mid Nov. We now have a basic battery bank set up.
Progress Report: Just completed my battery bank! Got myself a deep cycle marine battery, a 6amp charger and a 200 watt converter we've had for sometime. The original goal was to run things from the car to test the inverter. Since we're pretty comfortable with that, I decided to go ahead and just make the basic system at home. I feel good knowing we have this at our disposal when needed. Thanks to everyone in the community who helped me with this, you guys rock.
Progress Started: Build a battery bank and wire up to AC Converter to supplement small usage power requirements.
New Goal: Build a battery bank and wire up to AC Converter to supplement small usage power requirements.
Progress Started: Wind power generation
Solar power generation
Progress Report: Built back up battery system in a truck bed box with Solar controller. Tested it by running my fridge for 88 hours before batteries got too low. Ran off 700 watt inverter and recharged with 100 watt solar panel. Need more panels to keep up with draw.
New Goal: I would like to build a battery bank system with a couple of solar panels built from scratch. Mainly want it for an emergency for lighting, charging and keeping food cold. Any help would be great, do's or don'ts? What not to do? Thanks
Progress Report: I have purchased a Group 29 marine deep cycle battery. I already had a shuelmaker 3 stage battery charger and car starter. I have purchased a cigarette lighter adapter, a 3 way splitter and a 75 watt cigarette lighter inverter.
New Goal: Just started collecting fuel cans to have the one year cycle mentioned on the survival podcast.
Goal Completed: Begin to explore solar (small scale) and battery backup. As of 1-8-13 built small 2-battery backup system ala Steven Harris, DC and AC. 9-30-13, solar is not in the cards this year financially, but the battery backup and 800 W inverter for the truck have already been used in outages. Mr. Harris is a genius and a Godsend, and has en"lightened" our family...!
